University History in brief

1918 Board of Higher Education Institutions Narkompros RSFSR issued a regulation which initiated the University activity dated 25 November 1918 in accordance with which a forestry department was established at Kazan State University.

1922 On 22 May 1922 Presidium of Glavprofobr Board issued a regulation according to which Kazan institute of agriculture and forestry was founded. On the basis of its Forestry Department a Kazan Forestry Engineering Institute was established in accordance with regulation №40/237 issued by the Central Executive Committee and Board of People's Commissars of the USSR dated 23 July 1930.

1932 According to the regulation of Narkompros dated 5 June 1932 Kazan Forestry Technical Institute was moved to Yoshkar-Ola and was renamed into Povolzhskiy Forestry Engineering Institute.

According to the regulation of USSR Central Election Committee Secretariat dated 13 December 1932 Povolzhskiy Forestry Technical Institute was named after M. Gorky.

1968 According to the regulation of the USSR Council of Ministers № 377 dated 27 May, 1968 Povolzhskiy Forestry Engineering Institute named after M. Gorky was reorganized into Mari Polytechnic Institute named after M. Gorky.

1982 According to the regulation of the USSR Presidium of the Supreme Soviet № 7446-Х dated 1 July 1982 (Order of MINVUZ of RSFSR dated 23 July 1982 № 431) for the services of training highly skilled specialists for national economy and promotion scientific research the institute was awarded with the Order of People's Friendship and was named Mari Awarded with the Order of People's Friendship Polytechnic Institute named after M. Gorky.

1995 According to the order of Goscomvuz of Russia dated 31 March 1995 № 457 Mari Polytechnic institute named after M. Gorky was renamed into Mari State Technical University.
